World affairs got you down? Sick of looking for WMDs? Love life on the lam? Despair not, a session with Dame Edna Everage, Australia's international housewife and comedian, is a kick in the pants that's bound to perk you up. The self-described "most admired woman in the world," the alter ego and creation of Tony Award-winning actor/author Barry Humphries, returns to Manhattan in "Dame Edna: Back with a Vengeance!" that packages earthy and decidedly masculine humor in sequined dresses, purple wig, gigantic rhinestone glasses and, yes, gladioluses. Mrs. Doubtfire meets Liberace as Humphries lassos audience members into his/her devilish improvisations (leaving one group to fend for itself alone on stage). But his/her subjects seem to relish the abuse (they get a Polaroid photo with Dame Edna and a souvenir). Satirical targets include guest bathrooms, gay adoption, gourmet cooking, prostate problems, Donatella Versace, Fresno, airline security checks, "Kiwis," tofu and senior citizens (hard to take offense as Humphries was born in 1934). Dame Edna also does song and dance routines with backup from "The Gorgeous Ednaettes" and "The Equally Gorgeous TestEdnarones" (a youthful quartet of male and female dancers) and Wayne Barker at the baby grand. By the time it's over, everything is coming up glads! Orchestra seats: $87.50, Mezzanine: $87.50, $67.50.
