Robert Moses State Park is the only part of Fire Island accessible by car. It has five miles of beautiful white sand beaches and is less crowded than Jones Beach or city beaches like Rockaway and Coney Island. Beyond the park, the island can be reached by ferry from Sayville, Bayshore and Patchogue-all stops on the Long Island Railroad (from Penn Station). To reach the ferry terminals, it is necessary to take a taxi or shuttle bus.
