The Gershwin will give you a taste of New York Bohemia. Images of pop art fill the place, such as a signed Andy Warhol Campbell's soup can. The rooms are minimalist but clean, and the bathrooms have distinctive tiling. This hotel seems like a student meeting place with people playing pool in the TV room or drinking at the bar by the lobby.
If you are on a tight budget you can stay in one of the four-person dorms for about $33 per person per night, a great deal for this convenient neighborhood.
