Like most dark and seedy bars in the East Village, at one time this local legend was filled with shady characters. But like the rest of the area, it has gone a long way towards cleaning up its act. The drinks are still strong and extremely cheap however, the tough bartenders are friendly, and the local drunks are very chatty. The phenomenal jukebox plays jazz, blues and Jimi Hendrix, among others. Cash only.
