This club began its humble journey in 1970, and today it has grown to accommodate a subscriber base of 20,000. It produces new plays and musicals by both established and emerging American, and international playwrights. In 2001, the Manhattan Theatre Club earned Tony Award nominations for four Broadway productions. Some of the other awards that have been bestowed on this theater include eleven Tony Awards, three Pulitzer Prizes and over 40 Obies, as well as Drama Desk, Drama Critics Circle, Outer Critics Circle, Theatre World Awards and the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Achievement.
