This subterranean Japanese restaurant, located in the East Village, is most notable for having been around since the mid-1960s, long before sushi became popular in the United States or the neighborhood became gentrified. All the standard sushi, sashimi, teriyaki and tempura dishes are on the menu. Mie also offers special rolls and serves hot sake. The decor is fairly standard for a Japanese restaurant, even if the lacquer tables seem a bit retro.
