The Lion King

Theatre:

New Amsterdam Theatre

Address:

214 West 42nd Street

The Lion King, a daring and inspiring stage adaptation of one of the most successful animated films of all time, tells the unforgettable story of Simba - the epic adventure of his battles, his friendships, his dreams, and his journey from wide eyed cub to his destined role as King of the African Pridelands.

With a cast of over 40 actors, singers and dancers, the story of The Lion King is miraculously brought to life using masks, puppets and striking costumes. This gorgeous carnival of magical combination of Eastern traditions, fantastic representations of part-beast and part-human creatures, African chants and rich colours and vast expanses of the recreated African savanna, is triumphantly theatrical. It invites spectators to enter into it as a game – to enjoy the means by which it is produced rather than goggling as the simulated reality, all the time being aware of the actor behind the animal. The visual splendours of the show are never allowed to swamp the drama. The storyline remains clear and compelling.

The Lion King is a wonderful production and an unforgettably brilliant show.

*The Lion King is not recommended for children under 5 and no child under the age of 3 will be admitted.
