This cozy townhouse restaurant has been a West Village staple since around 1920, and somewhere along the way it became an institution. Today, New Yorkers dine here for a taste of yesterday, when nobody even knew what organic or nouvelle meant. On the menu, one finds decent renditions of American classics like roast turkey, meatloaf and other hearty fare. The working fireplace, garden and candlelight make it a good place to dine with a date.
